Product care 101

Small-batch products (read: products made by actual humans!) sometimes require a different type of care than factory-made products. Why? Simpler, better quality ingredients, for one.

The information below addresses the most common questions we get from customers on our products:

Candles

The wax we use is a blend of coconut and soy waxes. Those with soy allergies may want to avoid using our candles. We use lead-free wicks made from cotton and paper.

We use only premium, phthalate-free fragrances. There are a few components to the fragrance blends in our products: essential oils, synthetic oils, and natural isolate.

We have found coconut wax to have a better scent throw that soy, due to its lower melt point; but this also means that candles should absolutely not be burned on top of a stove or an oven, or kept inside a car during hot weather.

Recommended burn time for each candle size is as follows: for our large and medium sizes, we suggest burning for no longer than 3 hours at a time; for our small size candle, no more than 2 hours at a time. Coconut wax has a tendency to burn down instead of out across the candle; this may mean that during the first half of the candle life, you may see some wax hangup on the sides of the candle. This is actually a very safe way to burn a candle, and as the candle burns further down the jar, the wax should catch up.

Wick trimming is a very important part of candle performance. If a wick is too long, or has developed a mushroom on top, the candle will not burn as efficiently, you will not get the best scent throw, and there will be smoking. Before each burn, wicks should be trimmed to about 1/4".

Candles made from natural waxes have a more subtle scent throw than a paraffin-based candle (i.e. Yankee Candle). For best results, follow the burn and care guidelines above, and use the following placement suggestions for each size: our large candles work best in living rooms and open-concept spaces; our medium candles are great for bedrooms and medium-sized rooms; our small candles are best for bathrooms.

Reed diffusers

Diffusers work best in spaces like hallways, bathrooms, desks, and smaller areas where a subtle, consistent scent is desired.

The reeds slowly absorb the oils up through the length of the reed, soaking the reeds with the oil blend and scenting the air. To speed up the absorption process upon purchase, insert the reeds into the bottle for a few minutes, and then carefully flip them over to continue the process. Flip the reeds weekly, or whenever a fresh burst of scent is desired.

The carrier oil base in this product is, xxxxxxxxx; however it will be damaging to surfaces if spilled. It's very important that this product is placed in an area away from the danger of being knocked over.

We use only premium, phthalate-free fragrances. There are a few components to the fragrance blends in our products: essential oils, synthetic oils, and natural isolate.
